What robot will Contribute to Education?

The developing technology makes it true that the out-of-reach robots come to our home and commercial service scenarios, like cleaning robot, preschool education robot, promotion robot, and so on. The robots are demonstrating the intelligent services in the future. Among these services, education is one of the core value robot creates.

According to the research and practice from experts, robotics education in school can be labeled into five categories:

Robot Subject Instruction (or RSI)

Robot Subject Instruction means that, education organizer treats robot as one science to make students to learn about the basic knowledge and skills of robotics science. The education goals are as below:

1)Knowledge: Learn about the basic knowledge includes robot software engineer, hardware structure, functions and applications, etc.

2)Skills: Students are able to design and edit robot program, install functional robots, maintain the robot and intelligent home appliances and program to control the robots.

3)Emotion: Organizer uses robots to cultivate students’ interest in artificial intelligence, and make them realize the intelligent robots’ contribution to the society.

The robotics becoming one science has great challenges to teachers, education equipment, square, costs and experience in middle and primary schools.

Robot-Assisted Instruction (RAI)

Robot assisted instruction mean teachers use intelligent robots as the main education media and tools to teach classes. It can be called Robot-Assisted Learning (RAL), Robot-Assisted Training (RAT), Robot-Based Education (RBE). Compared to robotics science, the programmable robots for education is not the main role in education, but an education tool like assistant, learning companion, environment or intelligent education equipment, more advanced than general education tools in school.

Robot-Managed Instruction (RMI)

Robot-Managed Instruction refers to robot planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and controlling functions in classroom teaching, educational affairs, finance, personnel affairs, equipment and other teaching management activities. Robot management performs robot automation and intelligence from the organizing mode, organizing efficiency, etc.

Robot-Represented Routine (RRR)

Robot-Represented Routine means the intelligent service robot has partial human intelligence and functions, helping teachers perform some repetitive teaching work, like borrowing a book, and writing notes, etc., to advance the learning efficiency and quality.

Robot-Directed Instruction (RDI)

Robot-Directed Instruction is the robot’s highest level application in education. More than an assistant, intelligent robot plays the main role in education organization, practice and management. In this way, robot will be our learning object, which is not far from us.

If robots would like to open the door of education, they must activate the users with its actual functions. Intelligent educational robots have become the inevitable trend of future and they are becoming the powerful assistant to the future of children.
